Violent crime is continuing to make inroads in some of the safest parts of South.
I frankly don't know what to make of some of the advice they give, for people in neighborhoods like mine. If I ran outside to get away from a burglar at night, I'd have no place to go. Everybody around here locks their place like a fortress when they go to bed and my guess is that they'd be pretty leery of answering the door at night. You could make sure you have a charged cell phone with a neighbor on speed dial next to your bed. And hope they answer. This is aside from the ever popular, get a firearm and learn how to use it properly advice.

Facts:
On Saturday November 3, around 9:30pm three unknown suspects broke into a home on the 1300 block of Summit Avenue. The suspects entered the residence by removing window screens and entering through an unsecured kitchen window. They confronted and restrained the victim, demanding personal property. The suspects released the victim and left the residence, stealing the victim’s vehicle.
The Minneapolis Police Department has added additional patrol coverage in the neighborhood.

What you can do:
If a burglar enters your home while you are there, do not confront them. Immediately go to a secure area or leave the home if possible, and call 911. Report a burglary in progress.
Lock or secure all doors and windows at all times, even if you are in the home or yard. Keep in mind that garage door openers can be used as keys to your property.
Do not leave valuables in plain sight. This includes laptops, purses, wallets, keys, and anything else that may contain personal information.
Record make, model, and serial number on your valuables and keep in a safe place. This information can greatly assist in recovery of items.
Call 911 to report suspicious activity. This includes strangers loitering near homes and in alleyway, or unfamiliar noises such as breaking glass and loud banging. Remember, the majority of burglars who are caught in the act are caught because a neighbor reported seeing something suspicious.
Alert your neighbors and block club members to the problem and be sure to watch out for each other. This is your best defense against burglary.
Leave outdoor lights on overnight or install lighting that operates from dusk till dawn.
Ask your crime prevention specialist to conduct a free Home Security Survey. We will give you many tips and ideas for making your home more secure.
How to report a burglary:
Call 911 to report a burglary, whether or not you witness the burglary in progress. Note missing items, suspect description, tools, objects, or DNA evidence left at scene, possible time and date of occurrence, video surveillance, etc.
