Crime Alert: Robberies in North Minneapolis
Juveniles or young adults are robbing people as they step from doors to cars when they leave for work in the morning or come home at night.

Do you have any "news"?
It would be news if the Star and Fib actually gave us the race of the suspects for once instead of trying to be politically correct. Alas, it is North, so we already know.
SW, This type of crime is old news. I still would like to thank Margaret for sharing the "news" of a new group practicing the old crime. I wonder if they are the same ones that got Opat?
Oh come on, like you need a newspaper to tell you the race of the criminals involved in these incidents. You know as well as I do what race is perpetrating these types of crimes in North Minneapolis.
When I initially got the crime alert which included my area, I didn't think to post it because you're right. This is the kind of thing that people almost expect in some of these neighborhoods. Nevertheless, as Northside Eric said, it's good to know if a specific group may be working a specific area. While they could be the same guys that worked over the county comissioner, these seem less coordinated than his situation, more opportunistic. I could be wrong though.
North is turning into a wasteland. Its sickening that it seems like officials/businesses don't really give a sh*t about it. from time to time there will be a small story about the crime rate, or maybe the report of one of the more serious crimes but thats it.
I was robbed there tonight and I'm done with the area. Does anyone know of anything set up for poeple like me to get some noise out there about this wasteland? There needs to be people, many people, that care and that demand SOMETHING be done.

I was dumb enough to go there tonight for a burger around 6pm and I was robbed, I'm now done with that area and should have been long long ago. does anyone know of anything set up for poeple like me to get some noise out there about this wasteland? Good question. It depends on how you want to approach the problem and where you want to make the noise. Do you live in the 4th precinct? If so, becoming active in your neighborhood group, reporting crime would be a good place to start. Willard-Hay(Homewood) has a safety committee. www.willard-homewood.org; In Nordeast, the Northeast citizens patrol does walking patrols of Northeast neighborhoods, you could learn more about what they do at www.nepatrol.org; You could attend fourth precinct community meetings. http://www.4pac.org/
If your wanting to do something extends to mentoring younger kids, helping to keep them out of trouble, etc. There's the peace foundation. http://www.citypeace.org/home.html.

Why would you go over north for a burger if you didnt live there?? Let me truthfully re word that statement. you went there for a bag and got robbed... I dont like the earlier comments about "what race" it must be either. That type of talk circulates more prejudces and makes one look ignorant. I live in precent 4 and I am in the heart of the hood. I am a white single female and have been here for 2 years. Not only do I love my house, but i love my neihbors, my block, and the wonderful diversity I get to expierience everyday of inner city living. Calling my neighborhood a waisteland and grouping all of us together like that is a great way to take saome steps back in creating a beter community. -Proud N Strong North
You may not agree to the neighborhood as a waste band. You're either too ignorant to see it or you just turn your head and say it will never happen to me. I live in Elk River and manage a apartment building right dead center in the pit of North Mpls. In the last 8 months there have been 3 people shot and killed, other shot at and missed.
