Midtown Safety Center has a new Crime Prevention Specialist

The Safety Centers are kind of like police sub-stations or mini precincts. The 4th has one on Broadway and Downtown has at least one that I'm familiar with on University across from Surdyk's. This is good news for Precinct 3.

The Third Precinct is happy to announce that Midtown Community Safety Center is now being staffed by Crime Prevention Specialist John Baumann. John has 30 years of experience in crime prevention in Minneapolis and has been with the MPD since 1991. He has managed a number of citywide crime prevention programs such as National Night Out, McGruff House, crime prevention awards, Rental Property Owner Workshops and Block Connections among others. He also was in charge of operations (support staff, budgets, contracts, crime data, etc.) for Community Crime Prevention/SAFE for many years.

Under John’s leadership, Minneapolis’ National Night Out program became the largest and most successful in the nation. Doing that work, he successfully built a number of partnerships with corporations such as the Minnesota Twins, Target, Nickelodeon Universe and Qwest as well as many smaller businesses.

John is looking forward to new challenges at the Safety Center and urges everyone to drop by 2949 Chicago Ave or give him a call at the Safety Center if you have any questions at 612/825-6138.
