Sgt. Charlie Adams defamation suit goes forward

Rochelle Olson, the Strib courts reporter has the story. In the wake of the Mark Loesch case, Sgt. Adams sued the MPD and the city when he was transferred after making remarks in disagreement with his superior in the Homicide Dept., Lt. Amelia Huffman. Lt. Huffman had mentioned statements made by suspects in the case alleging that the victim, had been buying drugs. No such evidence is known to exist other than the suspects' statements and the family of the victim was outraged and homicide detectives Adams and his partner, then Sgt. Richard Zimmerman both voiced their disagreement to different degrees. Adams was reassigned, obstensively for insubordination. Zimmerman has since been promoted to Lt. and is in charge of Homicide. Adams is still working nights at the 5th precinct. The Loesch case is coming up for trial next week.
