- Police shot and wounded a suspect over the weekend in Precinct 3 (See Press Release Below)
- Crack house fire in North. Johnny Northside has the pictures and details
- I got added to a series of emails by concerned neighbors in Northeast discussing a resident's home getting burglarized. One of the most frustrating things that happened to her (other than her home getting completely trashed was that she almost immediately became a victim of ID theft. (These guys were pros--they disabled her burglar alarm and broke into her safe). Something that's good to remember in the chaotic aftermath of a burglary is that requesting new cards from your CC companies may not be enough. You should also freeze your credit record to prevent ID thieves from simply opening new accounts in your name. Here is info about how to go about it.
- Also a heartwarming story came to me via my neighborhood email list. Car thieves were caught thanks to a resident who noticed a strange car full of people parked in a neighbor's driveway. When questioned, the people in the car gave a vague (and unconvincing) answer and shoved off. Long story short--the neighbor got the plates and called it in to 911. It was a stolen car and the perps were apprehended. Who knows what other crime spree was thwarted by the actions of this alert neighbor. Moral of the story, if something looks wrong, call it in. Let the 911 operator decide what priority to give it.
