Thanks to blog reader Evan who answered my request for a copy. Evan pointed us to another website, a gun forum, that looks to be posting the highlights, counter-affectionately referred to by me as the 'lowlights'. I'm unsure if Evan is the forum user who is posting them each week, or if he is just a reader of both this crime watch blog and the gun forum, but either way, Evan is also a blogger himself. 4TH PRECINCT HIGHLIGHTS----WEEK 656—8/17/10----8/23/10
MPD provides this public safety information as a public service. These highlights are not reflective of all incidents handled or investigated by the MPD at this time. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
**Hello All…….It has been brought to my attention that the highlights can be difficult to understand with the use of so many abbreviations. To assist in this matter, I am providing a list of the most often used abbreviations & their meanings. I hope this guide is of assistance to you.

S= Suspect (S1, S2, etc…)
AP= Arrested Party (Party taken into physical custody or cited/released for a crime)
W= Witness
RP= Reporting Party (example: “RP told officers there were people trying to enter his neighbor’s house)
PG= Parental Guardian
OT= Other (a party on the scene that played no role, was just “there”)
BM= Black Male, BF= Black Female
WM=White Male, WF= White Female
AM= Asian Male, AF= Asian Female
DK= Drunk
GOA= Gone on Arrival (gone when squad responded)
HCJ= Hennepin County Jail (“AP was booked in HCJ”)
WT= Warrant…could be for various types of crimes, both misdemeanor & felony levels
HCMC= Hennepin County Medical Center
MPD= Minneapolis Police Department
MFD= Minneapolis Fire Department
ID’d= Identified ( “He ID’d the suspect as a classmate”)
PC= Probable Cause (evidence points to reasons to be booked…i.e. “He was booked for PC Weapons”)

26XX Dupont Ave N Tuesday 8/17/10 2145 hrs 10-250074
MFD responded to a structural fire at this location. The house is vacant & boarded up. The fire was to the garage, which was fully involved. There were many items inside the garage including mattresses; shelving; a wood stove; & trash items. A fire investigator spoke to a neighbor who stated she saw 2—3 BM’s, 12-15 yrs, go into the garage. The neighbor stated the same kids started a mattress on fire outside the garage several months ago. Based on MFD investigation, it was determined that the juveniles started this fire either intentionally or accidentally by playing with matches. No injuries. Estimated damage is $15,000.

37XX Bryant Ave N Sunday 8/22/10 0728 hrs 10-255490
MFD responded to a fire involving an unattached garage at this location. Fire damaged the exterior of the garage along the west side & there were 3 separate areas of fire along this side. There was an area in a circular pattern as if an accelerant was thrown or squirted there. The owner stated he has had ongoing trouble with a neighbor & he suspects this neighbor caused the fire. There was a faint smell of lighter or charcoal lighter fluid & the damage was consistent with a liquid accelerant being squirted on the side of the garage. MFD determined the cause of the fire was arson. Damage estimate is $1000. No injuries.

Glenwood Ave & Lyndale Ave N Tuesday 8/17/10 2304 hrs 10-250167
Officers responded to a shots fired call & learned that a victim with a gunshot wound was brought to the hospital. Officers went to the hospital to interview V1/BM, 19 yrs. V1 stated he was driving his vehicle downtown & while waiting for a light to change, someone started shooting at him. V1 heard 5-6 shots, 2 of which struck him. V1 was hit in his left forearm & his left leg. V1 thought the shots were coming from another vehicle, but wasn’t sure. V1’s wounds are non-life threatening. No suspect info at this time.

17XX Irving Ave N Wednesday 8/18/10 1615 hrs 10-250869
V1/BM, 19 yrs, was walking in the street in front of the above location when a tan Chevy Impala came up behind him. S1/BM, early 20’s, the right front passenger, leaned out the window with a dark colored handgun & fired 4—5 times, striking V1 in the hip. Suspect vehicle GOA. V1 was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening wound. No further suspect information.

19XX Broadway Ave W Wednesday 8/18/10 2325 hrs 10-251362
Officers responded to a fight & located V1/BM, 24 yrs, bleeding from the head a cut behind his ear, under his eye, & a welt on his cheek. V1 was extremely DK & not cooperative with officers. V1 eventually told officers S1/BM, 18-25 yrs, came up to him on a bike & called V1 by his nickname. S1 grabbed V1 by the shirt & asked what he had in his wallet. When V1showed S1 he had nothing, & S1struck V1 in the head with a hammer while S2 & S3, both BM’s, 18-25 yrs, poured an alcoholic beverage on him. No loss. V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

9XX Oliver Ave N Friday 8/20/10 1820 hrs 10-253517
V1/BF, 39 yrs, reported that 4 suspects kicked in the main door of the building & then kicked in the door to her apt. AP1/ BM, 22 yrs, produced a small handgun & held it on V1, as he demanded to know the location V2/BF, 29 yrs (V1’s daughter). As AP1 held V1 at gunpoint, AP2/BF, 29 yrs, (AP1’s sister), went into V2’s bedroom & hit her several times in the head with a closed fist. AP1 & AP2 were apprehended, positively ID’d, & booked into HCJ for PC Assault 2 & Burglary. V1 & V2 refused medical attention.

31XX Logan Ave N Friday 8/20/10 2156 hrs 10-253767
Officers responded to this location regarding a shooting. V1/BM, 21 yrs, was lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound to his right leg. Officers did not see an exit wound. V1 told officers he was sitting at the table in the kitchen when he heard 4—5 gunshots in rapid succession come from the rear of the house (where the kitchen is located). V1 realized he was shot in the leg but had no idea who did this or why. V1 was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening wound. No suspect information. Officers noticed several bullet holes in the rear of the house & shell casings in the alley.

37th Ave N & Girard Ave N Sunday 8/22/10 1400 hrs 10-255815
V1/BF, 24 yrs, was at Folwell Park with her friend, W1/BF, 24 yrs, & W1’s child. They were in the kid’s playground area when unknown S1/BF, 33-37 yrs, approached W1, accusing her child of throwing sand in the face of S1’s child. The verbal confrontation escalated & V1 & W1 decided it would be safer to leave the park. En route to W1’s house, V1 & W1 were approached by S1. The verbal confrontation restarted & V1 put herself between S1 & W1. After S1 walked away, V1 felt blood on her leg. V1 went to the hospital for stitches for a wound on her right thigh. There was no reported damage under the skin. S1, described as a light-skinned black female with an unkempt afro & gap in her upper front teeth, was GOA. V1 assumed she was stabbed by a knife due to the shape of the wound. Injury was minor.

34XX Newton Ave N Sunday 8/22/10 2202 hrs 10-256746
V1/Hispanic female, 35 yrs, was hosting a birthday party for one of her children & S1/Hispanic male, 39 yrs, V1’s ex-husband, was given permission to drop off a cake & leave immediately. V1 has an Order for Protection against S1. When V2/Hispanic male, 28 yrs, V1’s roommate, arrived home, S1 went crazy out of jealousy & tried to attack V2 with a knife. Other guests intervened & separated S1 from the knife. S1 then fled the party. No injuries. S1 was GOA.

3XX Broadway Ave W Tuesday 8/17/10 0030 hrs 10-248991
V1/BM, 51 yrs, stated he left a bar to drive home on his motorcycle when he was attacked by 3—4 black males (no further description). V1 stated he was punched in the head & robbed of his wallet, containing $150 in cash, as well as credit cards. V1 also stated that suspects took his cell phone & key ring. Suspects were GOA. V1 refused medical treatment.

V1/WM, 39 yrs, was loading his vehicle in front of the above location when he was approached by 2 unknown BM suspects. S1 pointed a black Glock handgun at V1 & demanded his wallet & car keys. V1 complied & handed over his wallet, containing $20 in cash & his car keys. Suspects then fled. V1 could only describe suspects as BM’s, early 20’s, wearing grey or black hoodies. No injuries.

23rd Ave N & Lyndale Ave N Wednesday 8/18/10 2256 hrs. 10-251320
V1/15 yrs, V2/17 yrs, & V3/16 yrs, all BF’s, were walking when unknown S1 & S2, both BM’s, 18-25 yrs,
approached them. S1 asked V3 if she had a lighter & she told him she did not. V3 & the other victims continued walking when the suspects approached them again & S1 pointed a black handgun in V3’s face, demanding all her stuff. V1 & V2 gave the suspects their purses & the suspects ran. Loss was $6 & some personal items. No injuries.

24XX Lyndale Ave N Thursday 8/19/10 0910 hrs. 10-251708
V1/Hispanic female, 47 yrs, & her daughter, were waiting on the corner for the bus. 2 unknown BM suspects, both 17-21 yrs, walked up to V1 & pulled her purse off her shoulder & ran. V1’s purse contained legal documentation for her US work status & $250 in cash. V1 thought she saw a gun in one suspect’s hand as he ran away. No further info. No injuries.

36th Ave N & Bryant Ave N Saturday 8/21/10 0050 hrs 10-254034
V1/BM, 15 yrs, & V2/Mixed race male, 16 yrs, told officers they were together on a bus riding home from downtown. When victims exited the bus, unknown S1 & S2 both BM’s, 16-17 yrs, followed behind them & also followed victims for one block when S1 put a gun to the side of V1’s face. V2 observed this & ran. S1 chased after V2 with the revolver & at this time, S2 demanded that V1 empty his pockets. V1 complied, though he didn’t see a gun on S2. V2 ran for several blocks with S1 chasing him, telling V2 he would shoot him if he didn’t stop. V2 finally stopped & emptied his pockets. S1 also demanded V2’s sweatshirt. S1 then ran in an unknown location. Loss included $32 in cash; 2 wallets; 2 cell phones; ID; & the sweatshirt. No injuries.

21st Ave N & Lyndale Ave N Saturday 8/21/10 2300 hrs 10-255109
Unknown S1/BM, 18-25 yrs, observed V1/BF, 32 yrs, obtain $50 in cash from a cash machine. S1 grabbed the $50 from V1’s hand & fled. V1 chased S1 until she lost sight of him. S1 is described as 5’5”-5’7” with a light build, dark complexion, with long dreadlocks, wearing an African country symbol beaded necklace, white tank top & jeans. S1 was holding a silver folding pocket knife, but did not use it to rob V1. No injuries.

32XX 4TH St N Sunday 8/22/10 2130 hrs 10-256138
V1/WM, 28 yrs, & his friend, V2/WM, 33 yrs, were sitting on V1’s porch at this location, having a beer when unknown S1 & S2, both BM’s, 20-25 yrs, came from the back of the address & asked where the money was. Suspects then raised handguns & V1 told them he had money upstairs & would get it. S1 followed V1 upstairs & told V1 if he tried anything, V2 would get shot. V1 retrieved $1200 & handed it to S1. V1 & S1 returned downstairs where S2 had a gun in the face of V2. Victims were forced to empty their pockets & lay down on their stomachs. Suspects took victims cell phones & an X-box, & fled out the door. Suspects were GOA. No injuries.

18TH Ave N & Xerxes Ave N Monday 8/23/10 1515 hrs 10-256709
Officers were dispatched to assist Golden Valley PD who had 3 juveniles in custody. V1/WM, 15 yrs, & victim’s parent were on the scene as well. Earlier,V1was threatened at knifepoint by AP1/BM, 13 yrs, while another suspect took V1’s bike & rode off with it. V1 & V1’s stepfather attempted to locate the suspects & found them. V1’s stepfather demanded the bike back, & 2 suspects attempted to fight him, when Golden Valley PD arrived, apprehended the parties, & retrieved the knife. AP1 was booked in the Minneapolis Juvenile Unit for PC Agg. Robbery. The other 2 suspects were released to their parents.

Officers executed a narcotics search warrant at the above location. Officers recovered narcotics & a weapon. AP1/BF, 39 yrs, was tagged & released for Disorderly House. Recovered gun is a Winchester 12 gauge pump shotgun.

22XX Aldrich Ave N Wednesday 8/18/10 1714 hrs 10-250914
AP1/BM, 20 yrs, ran from officers & threw a gun. A Taurus 9mm semi-automatic pistol was recovered. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.

25th Ave N & Hillside Ave Thursday 8/19/10 2335 hrs 10-252614
Officers observed a vehicle with a non-functioning license plate light & conducted a traffic stop. At this time, the passenger door opened & AP1/BM, 19 yrs, began running. Officer pursued AP1 on foot & noticed he dropped something from his waistband that made a metallic sound as it hit the pavement. AP1 was apprehended & a 9mm semi-automatic pistol was located in the area of AP1’s running path. AP1 was booked for PC Weapons. AP2/ BM, 19 yrs, was tagged & released for no DL.

17XX Queen Ave N Saturday 8/21/10 0037 hrs 10-254019
Officers were dispatched to the above area on a disturbance call that was updated with information that 2 parties involved had guns. Officers observed a group of 8-10 males in & around a parked vehicle. Officers observed AP1/BM, 27 yrs, in the front passenger seat. AP1 retrieved a black semi-automatic handgun from his waistband & officers gave him several commands to drop the gun. AP1 threw the gun under the parked vehicle. Officers recovered 2 loaded handguns under the vehicle & a bag containing suspected crack cocaine was found on the ground next to where AP1 had his feet. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.

34XX Girard Ave N Saturday 8/21/10 2121 hrs 10-254940
Officers were in the area in regards to an unknown male knocking on the caller’s door. AP1/21 yrs, was on a bicycle cutting through yards in an attempt to elude the squad. Officers commanded AP1 to stop & they observed him throw an unknown object. AP1 finally stopped & was taken into custody. Officers located a loaded handgun in the area where AP1 had tossed an object. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.

26th Ave N & Lyndale Ave N Monday 8/23/10 2110 hrs 10-257069
Officers were assisting other officers on a shots fired call when information was given that the person with the gun possibly ran into an address on Lyndale Ave. Officers parked directly behind a vehicle parked in front of this address & observed a male, later ID’d as AP1/BM, 20 yrs, exit the house carrying a plastic bag. AP1 got into the passenger seat of a vehicle that pulled out in traffic without signaling its course. Officers conducted a traffic stop & could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The occupants were removed & it was found that the plastic bag AP1 had been carrying contained a large amount of suspect marijuana on the floorboard by AP1’s feet. Directly under the front portion of AP1’s seat, officers located a loaded handgun. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons & PC Narcotics.
