MPD provides this public safety information as a public service. These highlights are not reflective of all incidents handled or investigated by the MPD at this time. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

ARSON:

14XX 15th Ave N Friday 10/15/10 2045 hrs 10-316650
MFD responded to a car fire at this location. The owner of the vehicle was not present at the time & the vehicle was fully engulfed. MPD had been in the area making an arrest when they heard a loud explosion & thought it might have been a transformer. Fire damage to the vehicle was extensive, with the interior of the vehicle totally gutted out & all windows blown out. Paint had melted off most of the vehicle. No witnesses, but MFD believes the cause of the fire to be arson. The vehicle had been abandoned & it was later learned there was a lien on it. Estimated damage is $5000. No injuries.
ASSAULT:
Assault2 w/a Dangerous Weapon
Dupont Ave N & Lowry Ave N Tuesday 10/12/10 2340 hrs 10-313554
Officers responded to the hospital on the report of a shooting victim. Officers met V1/male, 26 yrs, who had a large bandage on his left shoulder. V1 stated he was walking when he heard 2—3 gunshots. V1 felt pain in his arm & knew he had been shot. V1 flagged down a vehicle that gave him a ride to the hospital. V1 stated he did not know who shot him & did not believe he was the intended target. Injury is a “flesh wound” & non-life threatening. No suspects.

27th Ave N & Girard Ave N Thursday 10/14/10 1545 hrs 10-315252
V1/female, 14 yrs., stated she had been having problems with AP1/female, 15 yrs, in school & on the school bus. AP1 had threatened to fight V1. AP1 followed V1 off the school bus this date & began antagonizing V1, which escalated to a fist fight between the 2. AP1 hit V1 in the head with a glass bottle, while holding her by the hair. AP1 fled on foot. V1 required medical attention for a laceration to her forehead. AP1 was booked in JDC for PC Assault 2.
Assault4—Police/Emergency Personnel /Weapons/ Assault 4/ Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle
29th Ave N & Broadway Ave W Thursday 10/14/10 2245 hrs 10-315663
While on patrol, officers observed a silver sedan traveling at a high rate of speed. When officers activated the squad overhead light bar to detain the vehicle, AP1/male, 19 yrs, fled from the back seat & one officer gave chase on foot. The officer observed AP1 throw a handgun in the backyard of 27XX Vincent Ave N. Meanwhile, AP2/ male, 18 yrs, sped off in the vehicle with other officers in pursuit. AP2 accelerated to 80-100 mph, without stopping for signs or signals & disobeying the squad siren, in an attempt to escape. Officer on foot apprehended AP1 who fought with officer, tearing officer’s fingernail & scratching the officer multiple times. AP2’s vehicle was located in the rear of 39XX Thomas. AP2 was not on the scene, but his mother was able to take officers to his location where he was arrested & first attempted to give a false police report. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons & PC Assault 4. AP2 was booked in HCJ for PC Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle.

26th Ave N & Washington Ave N Saturday 10/16/10 1303 hrs 10-317426
V1/female, 18 yrs & V2/male, 27 yrs, who are girlfriend & boyfriend, were walking to a local store when AP1/female, 19 yrs, the ex-girlfriend of V2, stabbed V1 in the left arm with a kitchen knife & then attempted to stab V2. V2 was able to get the knife away from AP1 & hand it to AP2/female, 20 yrs, instructing her to leave with the knife. Instead, AP2 handed the knife back to AP1 who then stabbed V2 in the buttocks & leg. V2 was able to get the knife away again & in the process, stabbed AP1 in the back & the leg. V2 then threw the knife over a fence towards the highway. V2 & AP1 continued fighting till police arrived. AP1 was transported to HCMC for a non-life threatening wound & then booked in HCJ for PC Assault 2. AP2 was booked in HCJ for giving the knife back to AP1. V1 & V2 were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening wounds.

29th Ave N & Colfax Ave N Monday 10/18/10 2045 hrs 10-319812
Officers were dispatched to the hospital on the report of a person with a gunshot wound. Officers met V1/male, 18 yrs., who stated he was walking down the street when he heard a pop & then felt his leg hurting. An acquaintance drove V1 to the hospital. V1 stated he did not see anyone in the area & has not been in any fights, so he had no idea why anyone would shoot him. V1 gave conflicting information, including a false name. V1’s true identity was established & it was learned that he had warrants from Ramsey & Hennepin County for R & C. V1 is AP1 & he was booked for his warrants after receiving medical treatment. No suspects.

12XX Oliver Ave N Tuesday 10/12/10 1530 hrs 10-312993
V1/female, 17 yrs, stated she was walking home when S1/male, 17-18 yrs, walked up beside her. V1 was typing a text message on her cell phone at the time & S1 suddenly grabbed the phone, attempting to take it. The phone fell to the ground & S1 recovered it. V1 attempted to hold onto S1, to retrieve her phone, but he punched her in the mouth, knocking her to the ground, then fled on foot. V1 refused medical attention. S1 was GOA . Value of the cell phone is $500.
ROBBIZ (Rainbow Taxi)
33XX Humboldt Ave N Thursday 10/14/10 1543 hrs 10-315244
V1/female, 33 yrs, a driver for Rainbow Taxi, stated she picked up S1/male, 38-40 yrs, near the Greyhound bus stop at approx. 10th St & 2nd Ave. S1 stated he needed a ride to the above location. Once at the location, S1 grabbed V1 around the neck & pulled her back in her seat, putting a sharp object in her right side. V1 believed it was a knife. S1 told V1 to give him all her money or he would shoot her. V1 attempted to hit the panic button, but S1 was holding her too tight. V1 gave S1approx. $100 in unknown bills. S1 fled the cab on foot & V1 attempted to follow him, eventually losing sight of him. S1 left behind a grey plastic bag containing a zippered sweatshirt. S1 was GOA . V1 was not injured.

36TH Ave N & Sheridan Ave N Thursday 10/14/10 2015 hrs 10-315518
V1/male, 35 yrs, responded to a Craigslist ad for a cell phone. V1 met AP1/male, 19 yrs, & AP2/male, 17 yrs, at the above location. AP1 & AP2 got in the back seat of V1’s vehicle & AP1 pointed a gun at V1, demanding cash. V1 gave AP1 $420 in cash (all 20’s) & the AP’s also demanded V1’s cell phone. AP1 & AP2 then fled on foot. Officer observed a party matching a description of one of the AP’s & detained him…finding 2 cell phones within 5 feet of where he was stopped. Another squad located AP2, who was found to be in possession of $181…in $20 denominations. V1 was able to positively ID both AP’s. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Robbery & AP2 was booked in JDC for the same charge. V1 was not injured.

36XX Thomas Ave N Saturday 10/16/10 1300 hrs 10-318589
V1/male, 19 yrs, was walking when he was approached by S1 & S2, both males, 16-17 yrs. S1 asked V1 for a cigarette, at which time S2 pointed a small black rusty revolver at V1 & demanded his wallet. S1 found V1’s wallet & removed $10, plus V1’s social security card. The wallet was thrown back at V1 & he was also allowed to keep his cell phone. Suspects fled. V1 was not injured.

9XX Emerson Ave N Saturday 10/16/10 1915 hrs 10-317734
V1/male, 20 yrs, stated AP2/male, 13 yrs, was standing with a group of males & AP2 attempted to flag down V1 for a ride as V1 was driving by. V1 parked his vehicle in front of his house & was walking to his front door when he was surrounded by AP’s, 1, 2, & 3, males, 17, 13, & 17 yrs, respectively. AP1 told V1 to give him his keys or he would shoot him, while digging in his pocket implying he had a gun. AP3 also dug in his pocket, feigning a gun. V1 pretended to throw his car keys & ran. 4 parties chased him on foot. V1 called 911 on his cell phone & the AP’s fled. Six AP’s were caught fleeing. AP1, AP2, & AP3 were positively ID’d as being directly involved with the robbery attempt & were booked in JDC. V1 was not injured.

WEAP-Carry A Weapon without a Permit
James Ave N & Plymouth Ave N Thursday 10/14/10 0908 hrs 10-314924
Officer stopped AP1/male, 28 yrs, for a Traffic violation. AP1 was cited & released for No Insurance, after being told the vehicle it would be towed. During an inventory search of the vehicle, officer located a silver semi-automatic handgun in the center console. AP1 was not located & it was learned he was on probation for burglary. The vehicle was impounded & held for Weapons.
