4TH PRECINCT HIGHLIGHTS

(Note: this post is a catch up and these are not the most recent highlights)


4TH PRECINCT HIGHLIGHTS----WEEK 659----Sept. 7th---Sept. 13th, 2010 

MPD provides this public safety information as a public service.  These highlights are not reflective of all incidents handled or investigated by the MPD at this time.  All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

ARSON:

10XX 31st Ave N               Wednesday          9/8/10             2130 hrs                         10-276250
Officers were dispatched to the above location on the report of a domestic.  V1/BM, 47 yrs, stated that earlier in the evening, his daughter got into a verbal argument with S1/BM, 28 yrs, her ex-boyfriend.  V1 interjected & also got into a verbal argument with S1.  S1 stated he would “blow up” V1’s house & “mess up” his car.  V1 did not see S1 do anything, but his daughter observed S1 by V1’s car.  V1 found a burning rag in the filler tank of his gas tank.  V1 removed it & put it out.  There was no damage.  Officers observed a ribbed shirt on the ground that was charred & still smoking.   No injuries.  S1 was GOA. 

Arson
19XX Penn Ave N           Saturday           9/11/10            1211 hrs                             10-279141
MFD responded to a fire at this location.  A caller saw flames on the inside of the house as she walked by.  Another caller saw flames through the front door.   MFD saw fire in the front room of the home & stated the rear door was open.  The fire was confined to 2 couches & the contents of the room.  The fire originated in the 2 couches & extended through sheetrock & heavily charred framing roof joists & ceiling studs.  The utilities were not responsible for the start of the fire.  Cause of the fire to this vacant house is considered to be arson, as there were no signs of accidental ignition & the rear door was open.  Estimated property damage is $10,000.  Damage to contents is $100.  No injuries. 

ASSAULT:

Assault 4-Police/Emergency Personnel
16XX Sheridan Ave N              Wednesday           9/8/10             1736 hrs                  10-276007
Officers were dispatched to the above location regarding an assault on a Postal Carrier.  V1/WM, 23 yrs, was delivering mail when he was sucker punched by AP1/BM, 32 yrs.  V1 rode with officers & pointed out the address where this occurred.  AP1 was on the front porch & fled inside the house when officers told him to stop & that he was under arrest.  Officers chased AP1 inside & he began to fight with officers, at which time, AP2/ BF, 37 yrs, joined in & fought with officers, scratching one of them.  Assisting officers arrived & AP1 struck one in the chin & another suffered a moderate knee injury.  AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Assault 4.  AP2 was also booked in HCJ for PC Assault 4.  Their father, AP3/BM, 56 yrs, was booked for Obstructing Legal Process.

Assault2---With a Dangerous Weapon
15th Ave N & Morgan Ave N       Monday          9/13/10           1200 hrs                       10-282044
Officer was dispatched to HCMC to take a report on a stabbing.  V1/BM, 37 yrs, had been stabbed in the left shoulder & medical personnel were treating him.  V1 would not provide any information as to who stabbed him.  V1’s wound was non-life threatening.  

ROBBERY:

34TH Ave N & Lyndale Ave N       Tuesday           9/7/10                  1436 hrs                10-274653
V1/BM, 29 yrs, told officer he was the victim of an attempt robbery.  V1 stated he was in a car with a female & the driver pulled into an alley.  The female stated it was her house.  When V1 exited the vehicle, he was approached by 4 BM’s (no further description), who ran up to him & sprayed him with mace, demanding he give them whatever he had.  V1 was able to run & get away from the suspects.  V1 feels the female was in on the robbery attempt, as she did not run when the suspects approached them.  No loss.

26XX Logan Ave N               Wednesday               9/8/2010                   2026 hrs              10-276206
Officers responded to a reported robbery.    V1/BM, 14 yrs, was on his mountain bike when he was approached by 2 BM’s, both 18-20 yrs.  Suspects stood in front & back of V1 so he could not leave.  S1 produced a small black semi-automatic handgun & placed it against V1’s side.  S1 then removed a mobile cell phone, & an i-Pod Nano from V1’s pockets.  S1 then pointed the gun in V1’s face & ordered him to look away or he would blow his face off.   Suspects also took V1’s mountain bike.  There were no injuries.  Suspects were GOA.

26XX Oliver Ave N           Friday                9/10/10                    0535 hrs                      10-277758
V1/BM, 53 yrs, stated he was walking toward the bus stop when 3 unknown BM’s, jumped out from the back of a yard.  V1 was told by one suspect to get on the ground as V1 felt a metal object, which he thought was a gun, pressed against his right side neck area.  Suspects took $826 in cash, which was in the front pocket of V1’s jeans.  Suspects fled on foot.  V1 was not injured.  No descriptions on suspects.

6XX Broadway Ave W       Saturday         9/11/10                2100 hrs                             10-279699
V1/BF, 27 yrs, was at the gas station when she was approached by known S1/BF, 20-25 yrs.   S1 was upset because V1 intervened in a fight between S1’s mother & a relative of V1.  S1 & V1 began to fight & S1 grabbed V1’s hair & struck her in the head.  S1 then knocked V1 to the ground & kicked her.  S1 took V1’s $400 Blackberry & $20 she had in her hand.  S1 then fled the scene.

30th Ave N & Queen Ave N      Sunday          9/12/10              2313 hrs                       10-281025
Officers were dispatched to a report of one down.  V1/BM, 60 yrs, was having an obvious problem standing up.  V1 also had a tough time explaining what happened.  V1 appeared to be under the influence of alcohol & possibly had a head injury, as he was bleeding from his head & face.  One witness stated she observed S1/BM, 35-50 years, punch V1 an unknown number of times & watched V1 fall to the ground.  W1 stated V1 may have hit his head on the curb.  S1 went through V1’s pockets & pulled out V1’s wallet, saying something about V1owing him $20.  W1 said it also appeared that S1 took V1’s cell phone.  S2/WM, 40-45 yrs, was behind the wheel of a black Dodge & S1 got in the vehicle & the 2 drove off.  V1 did not want to go to the hospital, but due to a possible injury, officers placed a medical hold on him.  V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance.  Loss was $100 in cash & possibly a cell phone.

17TH Ave N & Penn Ave N           Monday           9/13/10                2245 hrs                    10-282035
V1/WM, 28 yrs, stated he was walking in the alley to a friend’s house when unknown S1, BM, 6’, wearing a black hoodie & dark pants, approached him.  S1 asked V1 for a cigarette, then pulled out a small handgun & demanded V1’s belongings.  V1 gave S1 $200 in cash; a wristwatch; a platinum ring; 2 gold rings; & a gold necklace with a Versace pendant.  S1 told V1 to turn around while S1 left the area.  No injuries.  S1 was GOA.

40XX Colfax Ave N              Tuesday                 9/7/10               2340 hrs                         10-275242
Officers responded to a prowler call at the above location.  Officers located AP1/BM, 34 yrs, who matched the given description.  Officers told AP1 to take his hands out of his pockets, which he refused to do.   When he finally removed his hands, he was holding a large kitchen knife.  AP1 was ordered to drop the knife at gunpoint.  AP1 was ID’d with a MN ID card & was cited & released.  The knife was inventoried.

29XX Knox Ave N             Wednesday            9/8/10              2249 hrs                           10-276392
Officers received info that a person with a gun was at this location.  Officer observed AP1/BM, 18 yrs,  who was wearing clothes that matched the given description & also matched those described in an earlier robbery.  As officers approached AP1 & others, AP1 slid a black object under the futon where he was seated.  AP1 was taken into custody & a black Glock 26 semi-automatic handgun with a bullet in the chamber, was located in the area where AP1 slid an object.   A search of AP1 netted a blue I-pod Nano that had been taken earlier in a robbery, & officers located a mountain bike in the area, which had been taken in the same robbery.  AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons & PC robbery.   (See Robbery case number above, 10-276206)

Plymouth Ave N & Sheridan Ave N     Wednesday       9/8/10             2254 hrs                   10-276401
Officers received information that a party, later ID’d as AP2, was in possession of a firearm with a large round capacity magazine.  Officers observed AP2/BM, 25 yrs, get into a vehicle.  The vehicle was stopped & the driver, AP1/ BM, 29 yrs, was observed reaching towards the firearm, which was directly behind AP2.  AP3/BM, 29 yrs, & AP4/BM, 25 yrs, also had immediate access to the firearm.  All 4 parties were taken into custody & booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.  The firearm was recovered.

23XX Aldrich Ave N               Thursday               9/9/10                          1441 hrs                10-276998
Officers received information that AP1/BM, 16 yrs, was in possession of a handgun.  Officers drove to the area where the armed juvenile was supposed to be, & observed AP1 run with the gun in his hand.  AP1 was taken into custody at the above location.  The handgun was recovered & inventoried.  AP1 was booked in Juvenile Division for PC Weapons.

21st Ave N & 4th St N         Friday                   9/10/10                  1322 hrs                         10-278051
Officers observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway.  AP3/BM, 21 yrs, was at the driver’s window, appearing to be making a drug transaction.  When AP3 saw officers, he grabbed his waist area & jumped into the back set of the vehicle.  Officers followed & observed several furtive moments inside the vehicle by AP3 & AP2/BM, 21 yrs, as it began to leave.  A traffic stop was conducted & all parties were removed & pat-searched.  A handgun was found in the glove box & 25 ecstasy pills were recovered from under the front passenger side center console.   AP1/BM, 21 yrs, as well as AP2 & AP3, was booked for PC Weapons & PC Narcotics.

29XX Dupont Ave N        Saturday                9/11/10                   2130 hrs                      10-279737
Officer was dispatched on a suspicious person call at this location.   The location was the site of a previous “Shots Fired” call in which an occupied vehicle was hit by gun fire.  Officer saw a group of people standing on the sidewalk.  AP1/BM, 20 yrs, was observed walking up to a house & returning a few moments later.  Each male was placed on his knees & officer approached the house, finding a small black handgun lying next to the stairs on the ground.  AP1 told officer the gun wasn’t his.  He referred to AP3/BM, 19 yrs, as the owner of the gun.    Assisting officers located 6 rounds of .25 caliber ammo in the pocket of AP2/BM, 23 yrs.   AP2 is a convicted felon & is prohibited from possessing ammo.   All 3 Parties were booked in HCJ.  At the jail, officers recovered a plastic baggie of suspected narcotics from AP3, so he was charged with PC Narcotics & a warrant.
