These crime news stories have been covered plenty of other places, these aren't breaking news. However, I can't help but notice that crime seems to mostly happen to those involved in a criminal lifestyle. There doesn't seem to be a lot of recent high profile crime that seems to be random. Even the recent U of M sexual assaults seem to be tied to frat parties and alcohol consumption. Feel free to use the comments section to add or counter these recent crimes headlines.
Drunk Drivers Gone Wild:
This past Saturday morning brought us a bit of a bizarre news story. I was at the Mill City Farmer's Market where I noticed a very familiar local political celebrity, John Delmonico, president of the Police Officer's Federation of Minneapolis. I approached and said hello, thanked him for his service, and chatted a minute. He asked where I lived in the 4th and pulled out his hand held device to read me the summary. One dead after car drove into a north Minneapolis house. At 7am, getting ready to leave the house, I could hear the siren chaos around me, so I knew something bad had happened, I just didn't know what. Apparently a group of people were congregated in front of a house and something went terribly wrong. The suspected driver was apprehended and charged with vehicular homicide as well as DWI. Another northside blog, North by Northside, has a more detailed write up examining the lifestyle of the alleged drunk driver and in the comments section someone added some details of the history of the man that was killed.
Possible Revenge Killing For 2002 Murder:
Timothy Wilson was shot in the eye on September 25 and died almost a week later. He was recently released from prison for a 2002 manslaughter conviction in which he allegedly shot a drug customer for allegedly using counterfeit bills to purchase the drugs. Wilson's family members are suspecting that the close range shooting in his eye is possibly revenge for the 2002 killing. Apparently previous threats to Wilson's life had been made, even while he was serving his prison sentence.
ShotSpotter Technology Assists in Case with no Other Evidence:
Christopher De Ronde was killed in the middle of the day near 30th and Colfax. Homicide detectives had very little or no evidence to help them, except the shotspotter technology which uses microphones and cameras to record the street scenes near detected gunfire. Two people have been charged with this murder and both of them have quite the criminal history for 20somethings including:

Alleged Tre Tre Crips gang member, Alonzo McCoy, has been recently indicted for playing a role in the February 2010 murder of Alisha Neeley. Neeley was shot outside a teen party; the type of party which has proven time and time again to be the most dangerous place for a teenager to be in Minneapolis. Neeley herself is alleged to have been a member of a girl gang; the kind which pride themselves on being the prettiest ladies available to the male gang members and trying to beat the living daylights out of rival girl gangs. Neeley was walking in close proximity to a BTG gang member, a rival of the Tre Tre Crips gang, and she caught a stray bullet. The North by Northside blog once again points to several other violent incidents that McCoy is allegedly involved with.

Oh no, not a teen party!!!!!
I'm Alisha's aunt and it's really sad to blame the victim when a crime happens. All I can say is she was a great young lady that had a bright future ahead. I don't think anyone can claim they made the best choices at seventeen.
