4TH PRECINCT HIGHLIGHTS----WEEK 665----Oct. 19th---Oct. 25th, 2010  
 
MPD provides this public safety information as a public service.  These highlights are not reflective of all incidents handled or investigated by the MPD at this time.  All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
 
ABBREVIATION GUIDE:

V=Victim (V1, V2, etc…)

AP=Arrested Party (Person taken into custody or cited & released for a crime)

ID’d= Identified (“He ID’d the suspect as a classmate”)
PC=Probable Cause (evidence points to reasons to be arrested…i.e. “He was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons”)

ASSAULT:
Assault 1-Great Bodily Harm
31XX Emerson Ave N             Thursday            10/21/10              1336 hrs                   10-322486
Officer responded to the grocery store at this location with information that employees were fighting with a male.  Officer observed AP1/male, 23 yrs, on the ground with employees holding him down.  AP1 was handcuffed & taken to the squad.   Store employees stated they observed AP1 trying to steal sodas from the store & when he attempted to leave, employees stopped him.  In the struggle, V1/male, 28 yrs, was bitten in the forearm by AP1, & the skin was broken.  AP1 stated he has HIV.  V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance.  AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Assault 1.
 
Assault2 w/a Dangerous Weapon
33XX 4th Ave N               Monday                  10/25/10                     1315 hrs                  10-326136
School Resource Officer of City View School notified police that V1/male, 10 yrs, a student, was threatened by unknown S1/male, 13-20 yrs, at knifepoint.  S1 was wearing a Freddy Krueger mask when he approached V1, flinging out a silver colored switchblade knife & stating “I’m gonna kill you!”  V1 fled back into the school & S1 fled.  Officer canvassed the area but S1 was not located.  V1 was not hurt & S1 did not attempt to steal anything from him.

9XX Broadway Ave W            Tuesday            10/19/10                 1728 hrs              10-320591
Officers responded to a robbery of person at this location & met V1/male, 31 yrs, who was bleeding heavily from his nose.  V1 reported that he accidently rode the wrong bus while attempting to go downtown, & ended up at W. Broadway & Dupont Ave N.   As V1 got off the bus with $16 in his hand, 2 unknown male suspects, 35-40 yrs, approached V1 & demanded the money.  V1 ran & the suspects caught up with V1, who threw the money on the ground.  S1 grabbed V1 & punched him twice in the face while S2 picked up the money & both suspects fled.  V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance for a possible broken nose.   Suspects were GOA .

14TH Ave N & Knox Ave N     Tuesday           10/19/10               2250 hrs                 10-320906
Officers responded to an armed robbery of person in this area.  V1/male, 27 yrs, stated he was approached on the corner of the above location by 4 unknown males, 15-18 yrs, wearing all black clothes & riding bikes.  Suspects asked V1 if he had some weed.  V1 said “no” & one suspect took out a long gun from his left hip area, pointed it at V1 & demanded whatever he had.  V1 gave suspects $15 in cash & a cell phone that belonged to his girlfriend, V2/22 years.  Suspects instructed V1 to place his hands in the air & not look back as they fled.  V1 was not injured.  Suspects were not located.

Girard Ave N & Lowry Ave N     Tuesday        10/19/10         1900 hrs                     10-321469
V1/male, 11 yrs, is acquainted with AP1/male, 13 yrs, & AP2/male, 15 yrs, who have assaulted & robbed him in the past.  V1 was approached by both AP’s, who demanded money.  AP1 patted V1’s pockets, but after finding no money, AP2 stated V1 was lying & hit him the mouth twice & once in the stomach.  V1 spotted both AP’s & they were held for police.  AP’s were booked in JDC for PC Robbery.

Glenwood Ave & Morgan Ave N       Wednesday     10/20/10      1857 hrs                 10-321714
V1/male, 54 yrs, appeared to have been drinking & told officers that a white SUV smashed into the front of his vehicle.  V1 stated two unknown male suspects 20-30 yrs, jumped out of the SUV & assaulted V1, punching & kicking him & taking his wallet.  These parties fled on foot, while the driver suspect drove off in the SUV.  V1 had a split lip & was transported to the hospital.  Suspects were GOA .

Broadway Ave W & Emerson Ave N    Wednesday      10/20/10     2139 hrs              10-321914
V1/female, 28 yrs, was stepping onto the bus when unknown S1/male, 17-18 yrs, grabbed her grocery bag & pulled it from her.  S1 fled with 2 other unknown suspects, 18-19 yrs.  Officers checked the area, but suspects were GOA .  Victim was not injured.   Loss included boots & liquor valued at $101.

46XX Lyndale Ave N               Saturday                          10/23/10         0034 hrs            10-324014
2 male suspects attempted a take-over style robbery at the bar at this location.   V1/male, 48 yrs, stated he was behind the bar when he heard a gunshot go off.  V1 then saw S1 shooting at him & dropped to the floor behind the bar.   S1 attempted to hop over the bar with a handgun in his hand & V4/male, 35 yrs, the bar security guard, shot at him.  S1 & V4 continued to exchange gunfire until S1 fled out the door.  There were a total of 8 victims in the bar at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.  K-9 attempted to track S1, but a party observed S1 & 2 other parties run from the scene & get into a black sedan.

9XX Broadway Ave W               Monday                     10/25/10          1530 hrs             10-326313
Officers responded to a robbery attempt at Little Caesars Pizza at this location.  OT1/male, 27 yrs, the store manager, waited to phone police, as he was retrieving the security tape of the incident.  OT2/female, 19 yrs,  told officers via phone that she was behind the counter at the time of the incident when unknown S1/male, 19-29 yrs, pulled out a silver knife when she attempted to take his order.  OT2 looked at S1, said “No” & walked away from the counter.  When OT2 yelled for the other employees, S1 fled the store.   No loss.  No injuries.  

WEAPONS:

14th Ave N & Logan Ave N            Tuesday           10/19/10           2030 hrs                  10-320781
Officers observed a vehicle drive through an intersection at a high rate of speed & noted it did not have operable rear tail lights…plus it failed to complete a stop.  A TLE was conducted & the driver, AP1/male, 31 yrs, was observed shifting his body & leaning towards the front passenger, AP2/male, 27 yrs.  AP2 was leaning toward the floor board of the vehicle.  Due to the behavior of both parties, officers requested the occupants exit the vehicle.  Officers located a loaded handgun underneath the front passenger seat.  AP1 & AP2 were arrested & booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.

35XX Fremont Ave N                Friday               10/22/10            1658 hrs                   10-323550
4th Precinct CRT officers executed a search warrant at the above location.  Weapons were recovered & AP1/ male, 23 yrs, was booked for PC Weapons.  The firearms were property inventoried.

45th Ave N & Colfax Ave N        Sunday              10/24/10                 2150 hrs              10-325635
Officers conducted at traffic stop for a minor traffic offense & could immediately smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.   The occupants of the vehicle admitted they had been smoking marijuana & officers observed an open container of beer in the back seat.  Officers also saw 2 gun locks in plain view.  Occupants of the car were removed for an inventory search of the vehicle.  Officers located a handgun in the trunk & the driver of the vehicle stated the gun belonged to one his passengers, AP1/male, 20 yrs.  AP1 was arrested & booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.
