Minneapolis Police Precinct 4 (Sector 2) Update/Last Weeks Highlights

4TH PRECINCT HIGHLIGHTS----WEEK 698---June 7th—June 13th, 2011

MPD provides this public safety information as a public service. These highlights are not reflective of all incidents handled or investigated by the MPD at this time. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

ABBREVIATION GUIDE;

V=Victim (V1, V2, etc…)

S=Suspect (S1, S2, etc…)

AP=Arrested Party (person taken into custody or cited & released for a crime)

W= Witness (W1, W2, etc…)

OT= Other (a party on the scene that often played no specific role or is not a victim)

RP= Reporting Party (Example: "RP told officers there were people trying to break into his neighbor's house)

PV=Police Officer is the victim

EMS= Emergency Medical Service

DK= Drunk

GOA= Gone on Arrival

HCJ= Hennepin County Jail

JDC= Juvenile Detention Center

CHIPS=Child in Need of Protective Services

ID'd= Identified ("He ID'd the suspect as a classmate")

SHOW-UP =Suspect is shown to victims to see if he/she can be positively ID'd as the person who committed the crime

DOA= Dead on Arrival

MTP= Metro Transit Police

PC= Probable Cause (Evidence points to reasons to be arrested…i.e. "He was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons")

MURDER:

Murder / Asslt2---w/a Dangerous Weapon

27XX Humboldt Ave N Monday 6/13/11 2345 hrs 11-169726

Officers responded to the report of a shooting at this location. V1/male, 20-23 yrs, was located in the rear of the address & was found to be DOA. V2/male, 26 yrs, was transported to the hospital via ambulance with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

10XX Newton Ave N Wednesday 6/8/11 2331 hrs 11-164085

MFD responded to a car fire at this location. The vehicle had not been reported stolen & there were no witnesses on the scene. The acting Fire Captain stated there was a strong odor of gasoline on the driver's side of the car & there were fire patterns on the roof & all over the surface. The entire dashboard burned & melted & all windows broke from the heat. Cause of the fire is Arson. Vehicle was towed to the Mpls Impound Lot for further investigation. Estimated damage is $12,000. No injuries.

Asslt2---w/a Dangerous Weapon (Attempt)

30XX Oliver Ave N Tuesday 6/7/11 1400 hrs 11-162144

Officer responded in reference to a shooting. RP1/female, stated she was in the school parking lot at this location & was approached by V1/male, 24 yrs, who had been running & was out of breath. V1 told RP he was being shot at & asked her to take him to 30th & Oliver Ave N. RP gave him a ride there & then called police. V1 had blood on his neck & was very uncooperative with officers. V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance. V1 had not been shot, but had a cut on the back of his head, as well as abrasions on his hands & elbow. No suspect info. V1 remained uncooperative & would not provide any info.

49XX Washburn Ave N Wednesday 6/8/11 1927 hrs 11-163721

Officers were assisting Brooklyn Center PD on a search warrant. S1/female, 17 yrs, was to be placed under arrest for aiding & abetting when she arrived at this location. Officers located her when she pulled up in a vehicle & handcuffed her before taking her to a squad to search her. S1 (AP) turned quickly in officer's grasp, pushed officer, & began kicking officer repeatedly. She was finally put into the back seat of the squad & then custody was transferred to the Brooklyn Center PD.

12XX Plymouth Ave N Thursday 6/9/11 0916 hrs 11-164384

V1/male, 48 yrs, was working security at this location (WorkForce) when AP1/male, 61 yrs, came in & used the phone. AP1 became very loud on the phone & was disruptive. He also appeared to be intoxicated. V1 & AP1 got into an argument when V1 attempted to get AP1 to leave. AP1 grabbed V1's gun & started pulling on it. V1 was afraid AP1 was going to disarm him & shoot him. V1 eventually got AP1 out of the building. AP1 was seen boarding an MTC bus. Officers requested the bus stop until they arrived. AP1 was located on the bus, arrested without incident, & was booked in HCJ for PC Assault 2. V1 was not injured.

16XX Thomas Ave N Thursday 6/9/11 1136 hrs 11-164507

Officers responded on a report of a person with a gun. Detailed descriptions were given of a male & female who were involved. Officers observed both AP1/female, 30 yrs, & AP2/male, 30 yrs, in a vehicle. AP2 was observed handing something over to AP1. All parties in & around the vehicle were detained & officers recovered a handgun from under the passenger seat. Witnesses told officers that both AP1 & AP2 came over to their residence & pointed the handgun at them in a threatening manner after a dispute over property. Both AP1 & AP2 were booked in HCJ for PC Weapons. No injuries.

Lyndale Ave N & Webber PK Thursday 6/9/11 1926 hrs 11-164969

Officers responded to an assault in progress, where one suspect was shooting a gun in the air. Remarks from the caller said that AP1/male, 15 yrs, was now pointing the gun at him. AP1 was taken into custody at the scene & was transported to the Juvenile Division. AP1 was charged with having a BB gun in Public. No injuries.

Asslt2---w/a Dangerous Weapon / Disruptive Party

32XX Logan Ave N Friday 6/10/11 2300 hrs 11-166339

Officers responded to a shooting at this location & observed V1/male, 35 yrs, on the front step, bleeding from his chest & arm. Officers learned that a graduation party was underway with many guests when a group of approx. 8 males, around 17 yrs of age, showed up wearing red, a gang color. These parties started talking about the Tre-tre gang & were told to leave. One male broke a window on the side of the house. S1/male, 15 yrs, stood across the street, yelling tre-tre's. S1 fired 4 shots at the front of the house, hitting V1 in the shoulder & abdomen. S1 & others got into a grey, 4-door vehicle & took off. Other members of their group got into a newer vehicle & also fled. S1 was the only party seen with a gun & firing shots. V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance in stable condition.

11XX Lowry Ave N Saturday 6/11/11 1030 hrs 11-166794

Officers were dispatched to the corner store at this location on info that V1/male, 26 yrs, was hit in the head with an unknown object. V1 was observed lying on the floor inside the store. V1 stated he was walking down the alley when he observed known S1/male, 26-28 yrs, & unknown S2/male, 26-28 yrs. V1 knew S1 from prison & stated S1 pulled out a handgun & threatened to shoot him. S1 then punched V1 in the face with his fist & struck him on the leg with a pipe. V1 went into the store & asked that police be called. Ambulance transported V1 to the hospital & stated he possibly had a broken femur. Suspects were GOA.

24XX Lyndale Ave N Saturday 6/11/11 2145 hrs 11-167450

Officers responded to this location regarding a female who had been shot. Officers located V1/female, 18 yrs, lying on the floor near a hallway. V1 was on her side & was conscious. V1 is pregnant & due to deliver a baby at any time. V1 stated she was in the kitchen when she felt a stinging feeling to the upper part of her back & fell to the floor. Officers observed an abrasion & a small amount of blood, but did not see a hole. V1 was transported to the hospital via ambulance with a non-life threatening wound. Officers observed a small hole on the side of the house in the kitchen. It appeared to have been made by a bullet. No suspects.

25th Ave N & 3rd St N Sunday 6/12/11 0230 hrs 11-167823

Officers were dispatched on the call of a person with a weapon. A female was chasing a man down the street with a knife. Officers observed S1/female, 25 yrs, & AP1/ male, 21 yrs, & stopped both parties. S1 stated AP1 punched her in the face & officers observed injuries to S1's mouth. Officers were preparing to arrest AP1 for Domestic Assault, but during a search incident to arrest, they located suspected crack cocaine in his pocket. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Narcotics. S1 was transported to the hospital & placed on a medical hold.

18th Ave N & Emerson Ave N Tuesday 6/7/11 1500 hrs 11-162226

V1/female, 21 yrs, stated she met known S1/female, 20-24 yrs, & unknown S2/female, 18-20 yrs, on the bus. V1 said she has a mutual boyfriend with S1 & S1 asked her to get off the bus so they could talk. The talk quickly turned into a fight & V1 said she was punched & kicked by the suspects. Suspects took V1's backpack containing her wallet, which had ID inside. Suspects fled & were GOA.

16XX Dowling Ave N Tuesday 6/7/11 1700 hrs 11-162600

Officers responded to a bike theft at this location. V1/male, 15 yrs, & V2/male, 12 yrs, stated they rode their bikes to the park & were getting a drink from the fountain when 3 male suspects, 16-17 yrs, approached them. S1 showed a silver gun & took V1's bike. S2 took V2's bike & S3 grabbed a bike that was leaning on the building. All 3 suspects drove off on the bikes. V1 knows S3 from school but did not know the other suspects. Victims were not injured. Suspects were GOA.

28th Ave N & Lyndale Ave N Wednesday 6/8/11 2320 hrs 11-164059

V1/female, 16 yrs, was walking down the street when she observed a compact vehicle slowly pass her & the occupants "eyeballed" her. Vehicle made a u-turn & stopped. V1 stated unknown S1/male, 16-18 yrs, & unknown S2/female, 16-18 yrs, got out of the vehicle & walked past her. One suspect then (V1 believes it was S1) came from behind & tore her purse off her shoulder. Suspects ran into the waiting getaway car & fled. Loss included a Coach purse valued at $70; a cell phone; bus card; & prescription glasses. V1 was not injured. Suspects were GOA.

30th Ave N & Emerson Ave N Friday 6/10/11 1225 hrs 11-165739

V1/male, 15 yrs, was walking with 2 friends when they observed 4 unknown males, 16-17 yrs, following them. The suspects stopped following them for a short while & then resumed. When V1 & his friends reached the above area, suspects ran up to them. S1 & S2 jumped V1 & punched him the face. V1 tried to run, but S1 & S2 tripped him, causing him to fall to the ground. S1 & S2 then searched V1's pockets & took his i-Pod with headphones, & bus card. All suspects ran. A store clerk advised that he witnessed the incident & stated the suspects did not come into the store, but waited outside for V1 & the others. There may be video footage of the incident. V1 sustained a bloody nose. The i-Pod is valued at $150.

9XX Penn Ave N Saturday 6/11/11 2100 hrs 11-168144

V1/male, 50 yrs, was walking home when he was approached by 3 unknown male suspects. S1 was carrying a large stick of wood & struck V1 across the forehead & nose with it, knocking V1 to the ground. V1 feels he was knocked out for a couple minutes. One of the suspects went through V1's pockets & stole $809 in cash. V1 went home & called 911 the next day. Officers observed a bump on his head, as well as abrasions on his forehead & nose. V1 also injured his right knee. V1 refused medical. No further info.

ROBBIZ (Pizza Hut)

32XX Lyndale Ave N Saturday 6/11/11 2340 hrs 11-167267

V1/male, 46 yrs, flagged down officers & told them he was attempting to deliver a pizza when he saw 3 males, 18-20 yrs, approaching him near his vehicle. S1 punched V1 in the face & S2 punched V1 in the nose. V1 dropped the pizzas & his car keys & S1 grabbed him by the shirt & threw him down. V1's shirt was torn & his hearing aid was knocked out of his ear. S1 & S2 went through V1's pockets & took $36 in cash. All 3 suspects then walked away. V1 was able to locate his hearing aid & car keys. V1 refused medical attention. V1 stated the 3rd suspect did not take part in the attack.

WEAP---Carry a Weapon w/out a Permit / Narcotics Violation

Colfax Ave N & Glenwood Ave Wednesday 6/8/11 1203 hrs 11-163342

Officers stopped a vehicle prior to a narcotics search warrant at a nearby location. 3 parties were in the car & were placed under arrest for narcotics. AP1/male, 40 yrs, admitted smoking marijuana prior to the stop. He was issued a citation & released. A search of the vehicle revealed a handgun in the flip-up console. Both AP2/ male, 25 yrs, & AP3/male, 26 yrs, had easy access to the weapon. Both AP2 & AP3 have felony convictions & are not permitted to have a handgun in their possession. AP2 & AP3 were booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.

WEAP---Carry a Weapon w/out a Permit / Flee Officer on Foot

15XX Newton Ave N Wednesday 6/8/11 2049 hrs 11-163832

Officers were called to a disturbance at the listed location & observed several males standing outside. Officers observed a clear outline of a gun in the front pouch of a sweatshirt worn by AP1/male, 18 yrs. Officers attempted to stop AP1 & he fled. AP1 was arrested in a nearby yard. The gun & AP's sweatshirt were located in another area. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons.

WEAP---Carry a Weapon w/out a Permit / Drug Paraphernalia / Warrant

38XX Fremont Ave Saturday 6/11/11 0020 hrs 11-166447

Officers were on routine patrol when they observed a vehicle parked in a biz. parking lot after closing time. Many people were seen around the car. Officers approached the vehicle & smelled a strong odor of marijuana. S1/male, 40 yrs, was digging in his waistband trying to conceal something. Officers found 2 syringes hidden in the engine compartment next to S1. Officers detained all parties & searched the car for further narcotics. A backpack containing a sawed-off shotgun was found in the trunk, as well as a box of ammo & a digital narcotics scale. AP1/male, 21 yrs; AP2/male, 21 yrs; & AP3/male, 21 yrs, were booked in HCJ for PC Weapons. S1 was ID'd & released, as he was not observed in the car.

WEAP---Carry a Weapon w/out a Permit / License Violation

34th Ave N & Emerson Ave N Sunday 6/12/11 0108 hrs 11-167745

Officers responded to a shots fired call. AP1/male, 22 yrs, was detained & found to have a loaded firearm. AP1 had a permit to carry, but was under the influence of alcohol, so he was violating his carry permit. AP1 was booked in HCJ.
