Vernice's Dad died suddenly on Sunday of a burst appendix and a bleeding ulcer. It entirely possible that the stress of caring for his daughter, who suffered massive brain damage in the crossfire gang shooting was a factor. Star Tribune story is here.

AP1/Rucker, Karlotta – BF 32 yrs. drunk/uncooperative/600 ft. tall/200 lbs. approx. was quarrelling w/family members. Officers were called to the scene/opened bedroom door and AP1 came running out screaming. AP1 was enraged at W1 and tried to get at her instead she used her knee to strike Officer in groin. Officer used her momentum to push her out door. AP1 admitted she had used cocaine along w/alcohol.

V1/mixed race male – 27 yrs. was stabbed multiple times/3” slash on neck/ear/stomach (NLT) and robbed by S1/unk BM 20-25 yrs. /med. build/long braids carrying a knife. S2/unk, Dominique (dancer at Skyway “Star”) – BF 25-27 yrs./lt. build w/medium Afro is an acquaintance of V1 who along w/S1 invited him to drink after bar closed. S1 drove a 4 dr. brown Cadillac/unk year and pulled over. V1 was attacked and his wallet stolen. He managed to get out of vehicle but wasn’t sure if S2 was involved directly.

V1/African BM – 36 yrs. and V2/BM – 4 yrs. were sitting in vehicle when S1/unk African BM 16-25 yrs. /dark skin fired 4-5 times at vehicle striking it 3xs. S1 fled on foot. Four casings were found. V1 does not think anyone is after him except for an argument over dog breeding last August with a guy where he received a puppy as payment.

V1/WM-46 yrs. was driving his truck with a friend, V2/WM – 65 yrs. when shots were fired from a veh/possibly a black SUV hitting his windshield with a piece of it plus bullet hitting V2 in the neck. Victims not sure which vehicle shot at them nor could they see occupants.

V1/BF – 16 yrs. had a gunshot wound to her right elbow while walking by S1/unknown BM – 0 in a 2001 GMC Denali/MN XTV806 dark green 4 dr. V1 said suspect veh did a “drive-by style” shoot and witnesses heard approx. 2 – 3 shots.

Officers were in area when a “shots” call came in and flagged down by 2 males. V1/unk race male – 58 yrs. had a gun shot wound to lower leg while getting tools from their parked vehicle. They were not the intended target. 2 suspect vehicles were shooting at each other just south of intersection. Neither had a description of vehicles except a “green” car and a “white” car. Officers located a white Chevy Lumina/MN UCH176 w/possible bullet lodged inside the door. O1 stated S1/unk BM 510” /medium build wearing black Carhart jacket w/black hoodie and red/wh/blk Jordan shoes had the gun and shot 5 – 6 times.

V1/BM – 17 yrs., and V2/BM – 18 yrs. stated when they walked out of the front doors of Prestige Academy onto Dupont, a group of 10-13 black males (17 – 20 yrs.) ran up assaulting them by kicking/punching. Their cell phones were taken and minor injuries. V3/BM – 47 yrs. is the father to one victim and lunged at the group to break it up. He was struck on head/back but refused medical. Friends of victims saw group fleeing and ran after them but heard gunshots. V3 heard 8 – 12 shots fired. The fight may have started over a boyfriend/girlfriend situation with S1/BF – 18 yrs. Gang related case.

V1/BM – 50 yrs. was inside apartment about to sleep when he heard 2 loud bangs with one bullet hitting his dog. S1/WM-506”/skinny wearing an orange mask w/eyes cut out and S2/taller – 0 entered living room facing V1. S1 looked scared and shocked so that’s when V1 took dog/ran out front door leaving suspects inside. Stolen were his laptop, MPC 15” screen and $70. Two 9mm casings were found in apartment.

Don't let your guard down in winter

When the subzero temperatures hit or there is a big dumping of snow, Minnesotans, even city dwellers tend to trust each other more in extreme situations: help for a stuck or stalled car, strangers go door to door, without suspicion, offering to shovel snow. Unfortunately there are some criminals who take advantage of this. Two stories:

The first, a crime alert from the MPD:

On Thursday 12/10/09 at about 7:45 pm on the 3100 block of Holmes Av S, a female resident was attempting to move her car for the Snow Emergency. She was having troubles starting the vehicle when an unknown male approached her offering to help.

As they were working to start the vehicle, the man pushed the female resident into the back seat of her car. The female resident was able to fight off the man and flee to safety.

We do not know what his intent was, as nothing was reported to be said and no other actions were reported to be taken by the man.

The man was described as a white male in his early 40’s, about 5’10” to 6’ tall, wearing a black coat that came to just above his knees. The female resident stated that he was wearing a dark-colored wool hat, gloves, and dark-colored jeans.

There is no further information available about this incident at this time.

A magazine (GLOCK 9mm handgun) was dropped in V1’s vehicle between the seats.

Squads called to the above on a Shots Spotter that suspects may currently be standing in front of same address and had just fired a shotgun. Squads arrive quickly and took two males into custody. Officers locate a City garbage can in middle of alley behind 21XX Russell with what appears to be holes from being fired upon. Officers search area/locate shotgun.

Female victim was dropped off at bus stop(39th Av N/Fremont N) by her husband. A few minutes later, she was confronted by a black male wearing a dark jacket, light colored hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. Suspect pointed a gun at her/directed her to small space between the garages at 39XX Fremont N, and the garage just south. Victim forced at gunpoint to perform oral sex, and to allow vaginal intercourse. Suspect then masturbated. He then wiped the evidence on the garage wall. Victim said she realized the gun was fake when she heard it click. (could have also been suspect pulling the trigger.) Suspect ran when the 2 gas company employees heard and responded to victim’s call out for help. Suspect ran SB in the alley.

Officers called by dispatch of a stolen car which was being monitored by the company in which the victim of the stolen contracts for GPS. Officers attempted to find vehicle from various locations given. Officers finally able to find it and as officers make stop, suspect attempts to strike one officer who was outside of squad w/stolen vehicle.

SATURDAY (12-05-09):

Four officers and one Sgt from Fourth Pct day watch responded to Third Pct to assist with an anti-Obama/anti-war protest. 150 protesters. No property damage. No violence. All response cars released at 1400.

Preliminary Report of Shoot
33XX Upton Ave N 21:00 hrs 09-370085
Officers responded to a call of shots fired which was updated to a shooting, with V1 at 33XX Upton Ave N. Upon arrival, Officers located V1/juvenile male. V1 had a gunshot wound to upper back w/exit wound in neck. V1 transported to Hsp. - informed V1’s wounds were probably not life-threatening. Officers located numerous spent .45 and 12 gauge rounds in alley, Thomas to Upton, in the 3200 and 3300 blocks and located a spent .45 casing in back yard of 33XX Thomas Ave N and Officers located another spent .45 casing inside a garbage bag in the kitchen of the above address. Officers froze the house and drafted a search warrant which led to the recovery of a .45 handgun.

Officers responded 34XX Humboldt on a report of a shooting. Witnesses informed officers that victim had been transported to Hsp. Officers went there and spoke to the victim, a juvenile male, who had a gunshot wound to the top of his foot. V1 stated that he was walking across the street from a friend’s house to his house and approached by an unk male, who asked V1’s name and then began shooting (multiple times) at V1. There were no reports of shots in the area or a ShotSpotter activation. Officers checked the area.

Charges in Homicide #19

The details are still fuzzy but the suspect and victim knew eachother, and the suspect was familiar with the layout of the victim's apartment. The charges are second degree murder (felony)intentional but without premeditation so it doesn't seem like it would be a personal but rather a home invasion/burglary where a murder was committed in the process. According to this Star Tribune story, there has been no official word on motive.

Charges filed in NE homicide

November 17, 2009 (MINNEAPOLIS) Criminal charges have been filed in the November 14, 2009 stabbing death of Brandon Keeler that occurred in the 1000 block of Lowry Ave NE. Brian Jeffrey Miller (DOB 9/28/1978) has been charged with, MURDER IN THE SECOND DEGREE (intentional) (felony).

According to the complaint, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Lowry Ave NE on a report of an unconscious male who had been stabbed. The caller at that address told police that he was awaken by sounds of an altercation that was occurring in his apartment. He left his room and observed, in an enclosed porch area, two silhouettes struggling. He called out to them, the struggling stopped and one of the parties ran down the stairs and out of the house. That was when the caller discovered that the victim had been stabbed and immediately called police. Keeler was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers at the scene were able to determine that the suspect was possibly injured and bleeding because of a blood trail that went away from the victim, down the stairs and outside through the yard.

A couple of hours later, a male, later identified as Brian Jeffrey Miller, showed up at Hennepin County Medical Center with a severe cuts to his right hand and additional wounds to his left hand and face. Officers went to the hospital and detained Miller until investigators could speak with him. When asked what happened, Miller gave a story that he was carjacked and sustained the injuries while fending off the attackers. Miller’s car was subsequently found in a park in Northeast Minneapolis. Inside the car officers found blood like substance in various areas.

During the follow-up investigation, a connection was made after it was learned that Miller was acquainted with both the victim and the 911 caller. Because of prior visits, Miller knew the layout of the victim’s house and who occupied what room. Miller was also living with the victim’s landlord until being displaced approximately one week ago.

Homicide detectives Wallerich, Wehr and patrol officers were able to act quickly in gathering initial information, containing the suspect at the hospital and obtaining pertinent follow-up information that led to these charges being filed. Miller is in custody at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Facility. Bail has been set at $1,000,000. A booking photo is available.

AP1 was upset at V1 who was dating her boyfriend. AP2 is the mother of AP1 and she also threatened that they were all going to get theirs because her daughter was going to jail. AP2 was stopped/booked HCJ. A 4.5” blade/knife was also recovered. Victims afraid of retaliation.

V1 went to OT1’s home to talk which erupted into argument and V1 got into a physical fight with one of OT1’s children. While walking home, V1 and family members were shot at by S1 & S2 unk BMs 20-30 yrs. No injuries. While Officers were at the scene, approx. 25 more people arrived ready to fight. Reason: Squad aired that he was trying to catch up a reckless driver in the area of 47th/Humboldt. Shortly afterward, squad aired the plate and stated that the vehicle was not stopping. Squad emergency equipment was activated during the short pursuit. Squad did not have time to air the speeds due to the short length of the pursuit. A few seconds later, squad aired that the vehicle was stopping and the passenger was bailing from the vehicle. The driver remained with the vehicle and was taken into custody. The driver stated that the passenger who fled on foot, who was not located, had a quantity of marijuana with him and the driver was attempting to purchase the marijuana when the officer observed him, and that is why he fled. AP was booked at JDC for PC FLEE.

Neighbors broke out the windows of the victim’s car. The victim and other neighbors witnessed this. The Ap’s told the victim that they broke the car windows because the victim had called the police regarding the Ap’s cars and the Ap’s were getting tickets. Robbery of Business:

Location: 4053 Fremont Av. N.

Time: 1657 Hours.

Details: Officers were called to the above Automotive Business on a Robbery of Business. Further details state that one victim had been shot in the leg. Upon squads arrival, Officers found 3 victims, one that was shot “through and through” the upper leg.

Victim with leg injury spoke very little English and was transported to Hsp. for his injury. Squad responded from 5th Pct to translate at Hsp. Other 2 victims had a language barrier but were able to advise officers that 2 black males, 18-20 yrs, both wearing dark clothing had come into business. First suspect had originally come into business alone to discuss a transmission issue on his vehicle that he supposedly has. This suspect left and then returned just a short time later with the second suspect.

Suspect pulled out a gun and began to demand wallets from each victim. 2 victims gave up their wallets with one victim stalling. One suspect began yelling at other suspect to shoot victim. Suspect then shot victim in the leg. One .22 casing was found inside business. Suspects then fled north of the business.

Appears that this Robbery could be related to Robberies from earlier in week. Victim from CCN 09-347,425.

in Chicago Ave apartment building now up to $10,000

The Minneapolis Police Department, Crime Stoppers of Minnesota and the family of murder victim Paul Fisher will hold a joint news conference tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. in the City Hall rotunda to announce that the reward offered in this case will be increased up to $10,000. Attending will be the mother of the victim, Patti Swedberg, Robert Dennistoun the Executive Director of Crime Stoppers of Minnesota, Lt. Richard Zimmerman commander of the MPD Homicide Unit and VJ Smith of MAD DADS.

Last August, police asked for the public’s assistance in solving the murder of Paul Fisher that occurred July 25th in the 5300 block of Chicago Avenue South. During that incident officers from the Third Precinct responded to a report of a shooting just after 2 a.m. When the officers arrived they found Fisher suffering from a gunshot wound lying in a stairwell of an apartment building. He died at the scene.

Crime Stoppers at that time offered up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. Since then, Paul’s family and friends have raised money through donations and fundraisers to promote progress in this investigation. Police have been unable to find the lead that they need to bring the perpetrator of this homicide to justice. The family and investigators are hopeful that the increase in the reward money will spur someone to come forward.

By using Crime Stoppers of Minnesota to provide tips people with information can remain anonymous as they offer information about this case. Information about unusual events, persons or vehicles seen in the area at the time of the July 25th homicide may provide the lead that investigators need to solve this case. Early this morning somebody sent me a link to a YouTube video that showed what appear to be assaults on people in Minneapolis by various Somali youth. Old and young, joggers, bicyclists and little kids on the way home from school are shoved, pushed and knocked to the ground. In a couple of vignettes, the victims try to fight back. It doesn't look like robbery is the motive or at least none takes place on screen. Just an assault every few seconds punctuated by thugged out kids dancing in front of the camera. Faked kids prank or reality TV? You can be the judge since City Pages has a copy mirrored of the video as it was taken off YouTube (see the CP Post comment threads for updates. )

Police investigate suspicious death

Nov 4, 2009 (MINNEAPOLIS) Shortly before 5:00 a.m. this morning, officers from the Second Precinct, along with fire and ambulance, were dispatched to an unconscious person in the 1000 block of Lowry Ave NE. When officers arrived they found an adult male dead of suspicious circumstances.

There are no suspects in custody at this time and investigators with the Minneapolis Police Homicide Unit are following leads. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Department tip line at 612-692-tips (8477).

(Victim identification and cause of death will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.)

V2/Mixed female – 25 yrs. was shot at also by S1/known BM 21-22 yrs. V1 has known S1 since high school and are good friends. V2 was trying to get back items that S1 stole from her residence and followed him outside. Suspect fled after shooting at all three.

No injuries and victims had no information. V4/BF – 62 yrs. vehicle was shot at/damaged. Two .40 cal casings were on sidewalk and 5 more in front yard.

Officers are able to apprehend 2 black males leaving out back of this address. V1 ID’d both parties as the people that beat him up. V1 to Hsp. w/ broken jaw - rib injuries. S booked into HCJ.

Loring Park Neighborhood November 5, 2009

Facts:

On 10/30/2009 on the 1500 block of Spruce Place, a suspect entered a multi-unit apartment complex via an unsecured security door.

A female victim encountered the suspect in the common laundry room where she observed the suspect going through her laundry. The suspect sexually molested and assaulted the victim. The victim then fought off the suspect. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as being a black male with medium complexion, 30-40 years old, approximately 6 foot tall, light build, unshaven with a short afro. The suspect was reported to be wearing a red flannel shirt and beanie hat while carrying a backpack.

Theft From Motor Vehicles

We continue to see a trend of thefts from motor vehicles occurring in the 5th Precinct. See below for information on the last two weeks’ trends.

Stevens Square and Whittier residents may recognize the mention of the thefts from 10/20-10/26 from a previous alert. This alert is being sent out as a reminder.

Reported thefts from motor vehicles 10/20-10/26/09

35 reported thefts from motor vehicles in 5th Precinct.
15 of those occurred north of Lake Street.
A breakdown of those 15 reports is as follows:
5 were in Lowry Hill East
1 was in East Isles
2 were on the border of Lowry Hill East and East Isles
1 was in Lowry Hill
1 was in Stevens Square
1 was on the border of Stevens Square and Lowry Hill East
4 were in Whittier
In most cases, a window was broken to access valuables inside.
In 6 of the 15 cases, a GPS unit was stolen.
2 cases included stolen laptops.
2 included stolen iPods.

Teen Tasered in neck by police officer speaks out - Minneapolis / St. Paul News - City Pages - The Blotter

He says he didn't move but the MPD officer tasered him anyway. There are a bunch of issues here that will have to be resolved, whether the stop was warranted, whether the escalation of force was warranted and the misuse of the taser--you don't taser somebody touching somebody or something else, and definitely not something metal. Don't expect to hear the cop's POV anytime soon since there are administrative procedures and probably union rules as well that prevent that from happening.

V1/BM-23 yrs. was shot in back of head, arm, leg and numerous times in torso; and V2/BM-19 yrs. was shot in left side of back by S1/unk BM 18-30 yrs. V2 was attending a house party when several shots went off sounding like they came from outside. V1 and V2 claim not to know each other. V1 seemed to be a target when S1 approached him at the door and fired approx. 5 shots. No suspect information.

V1/BM – 37 yrs. had a severe laceration in head/neck area when assaulted by 6 unk BMs – 0 information. W2 said V1was jumped because he was the boyfriend of W1. Officers noticed V1 was unresponsive and bleeding from the head. W1’s husband is in jail and believes his friends attacked V1. There were some remarks in earlier call about a blue Cutlass/no further info.

V1/WM-47 yrs. stated he was assaulted causing him to loose his 2 front teeth/cut lip by S1/unk BM (15-20 yrs.) 508-511”/medium w/dark skin, slight beard/Afro-unkempt and a tattoo of a tear drop under left eye, and S2/unk BM with same description but had no facial hair. S1 and S2 were with a group of 5 to 6 BMs walking in the middle of street and wouldn’t move when V1 tried to pass in his car. S2 punched car window so V1 got out to confront S1 and S2. During the assault, the others ran off. S1/S2 were GOA.

Officers were sent to a fight on a MTC bus between AP1/BF-17 yrs. and V1/BF-17 yrs. Apparently, AP1 had dropped her cell phone at the bus stop and accused V1 of stealing it. V1 boarded the bus. AP1 rode in a vehicle behind bus so she could board the bus at next stop. A physical confrontation erupted on bus with V1 ending up with a cut/a lump to her head from being hit w/Master padlock. Cell was later recovered under vehicle’s seat that AP1 was sitting in.

She accepted a ride with S1/unk BM 29-39 yrs./with French braids/blue shirt w/grey markings on sleeve driving an unk/grey “very clean” 4 dr sedan similar to MN/367 DKZ with skull head door lock buttons along with S2/unk BM 18-25 yrs., an acquaintance from her school and S3/unk BM 18-25 yrs. They kept asking her if she was a prostitute. S2 and S3 got fed up and asked to be dropped off when V1 tried to get out but was threatened w/gun by S1, the driver. S1 raped her somewhere; she was not aware of the area. V1 was dropped off a few blocks from her home and called “911.” V1 was hysterical and hyperventilating. Ambulance called.

Officers responded to a shoot and located 2 victims. (V1) had gunshot wounds to ear, wrist, leg, and numerous GSW’s to the abdomen. It appears that V1 was outside the house when he was shot. (V2) sustained a superficial GSW to shoulder, which came through the wall of the house prior to striking the victim, who was sitting in the living room. Victims transported to Hsp. Officers located at least 3 DCC’s in the front/side yard of house, and located a .380 in the back yard. Officers located 2 bullet holes near a side window, and a fired round inside the house. Officers informed that both victims sustained NLT wounds.

Officers called to a SHOTS call which turned into a possible SHOOTING and found a car up on the curb /struck a blvd. tree/all the doors open. Info called in was that callers heard shots then a car leaving scene. Callers thought there was a body in it not moving. Officers found car abandoned. Male driver and 2 female passengers fled scene. While Officers were on scene, another caller stated he had just observed 2 males hide 2 guns under garbage cans in the alley. Officers went to this address; but, caller had retrieved the guns, placed them in a bag, brought them in his house and then retrieved by Officers. Later, same caller waved down Officer and told her that a red vehicle was now in the alley w/males looking under garbage cans. Officers arrived/found 2 males in alley/4 other people inside a red Grand Am. All parties were ID’d/tagged for Loitering. Vehicle was towed after a small amount of marijuana was located and vehicle did not register to anyone in car.

Everyone was sent from the party, and Officers located a handgun in the common hallway area.

Kind of sucks for Steven's Square which just had a homicide, even if the killing was related to a personal beef. Not good for the stats.

Please see below for information on purse snatches and thefts from motor vehicles in sector one, primarily in Stevens Square, Whittier and Lowry Hill East neighborhoods. There is no further information on any of these crimes at this time.

Purse Snatches

There have been three reported purse snatches within the last week in 5th Precinct Sector 1. In all three cases, the female victim was walking alone when someone ran up from behind, grabbed her purse and ran. In one case, two males approached; in the other two cases, it was one male. None of the victims reported injuries.

In two cases, the purses were recovered. In one case, credit cards from the purse were used at a gas station.

· Avoid walking alone down alleys or isolated streets, especially in the dark

· Have a cell phone with you so you can call 911

· Carry your keys in your hand so you can more quickly get into your front door

· Carry the minimum amount of cash and credit cards with you that you can

· If you must carry a lot of cash, carry a small amount in an obvious place (like your purse, wallet, or pockets) and hide the rest in a less obvious place (like a shoe)

Theft From Motor Vehicles

In addition, we continue to see thefts from motor vehicles. This week (10/20-10/26/09) there were 35 reported thefts from motor vehicles in 5th Precinct. 15 of those occurred north of Lake Street. 9 of the cases were in or on the border of Lowry Hill East.

In most cases, a window was broken to access valuables inside. In 6 of the 15 cases, a GPS unit was stolen. 2 cases included stolen laptops and 2 included stolen iPods.

This is a reminder to remove valuables from your vehicle, including GPS, wallets, purses, laptops, iPods, and so on. Remember that even a gym bag could be attractive to a thief because he or she will not know what is inside.

If you must keep valuables in your vehicle, it’s best to place them in your trunk before reaching your destination.

It could be another "Somali revenge killing" but in this case, the fact that the victim may have been targeted because he offered testimony in another case isn't particularly Somali. Assault on 10/29/09

On October 29th at 6:40 am, a man was walking his six year old son to the bus stop at E. 34th Street and 17th Avenue South when he saw 4-5 males and females assaulting someone on the ground. The man interrupted the assault and the suspects turned on him. The man was punched in the face several times breaking his glasses. The first assault victim ran away while the man was being assaulted. Suspects then fled Southbound on 17th Avenue South. Victim did not want ambulance.

The suspects are described as either Latino or Native American One suspect was a female, age 16-17 years, approximately 5’5”-5’6”, wearing a black sweatshirt and dark winter hat. Another was a male, age16-17 years, approximately 5’8”-5’9”, wearing a black sweatshirt and black baseball hat.

There is no other information at this time.

Robberies of Person October 29, 2009

Facts:

There were four robberies that occurred on October 28 and 29 that were similar in nature.

On 10/28 at 10:15 p.m., victim was riding his bicycle home and was near E. 32nd St. and Oakland Ave. when three unknown suspects "charged" at him, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. Victim was then robbed at gunpoint. Suspects are described as three black males, age 14-17 years, wearing hooded white, gray, and black sweatshirts respectively.

On 10/28 at 10:40 p.m., victim was riding his bike near Powderhorn Park when five unknown suspects kicked the front tire of his bike, causing him to fall and hit his head on the concrete. Suspects dragged the victim toward the tennis court. Victim lost consciousness after being kicked in the head and awoke to find his property missing. One suspect was armed with a gun. Suspects are described as five black males, age 17-20 years wearing hooded sweatshirts.

On 10/29 at 1:50 a.m., victim was walking southbound on 27th Ave. S. near E. 28th St. when he observed six unknown suspects standing in front of him. Suspects moved to let the victim pass. Suspects then lunged at him, knocking him to the ground, and held him down. Victim was punched and kicked while on the ground and suspects removed his property from his pockets. Suspects are described as two white males, three black males and one black female, ages 21-27, wearing dark hoodies and dark clothing.

On 10/29 at 6:16 a.m., victim was walking towards the MTC Light Rail Station and was at E. 32nd St. and 23rd Ave. S. when he was jumped by three suspects. Victim was knocked to the ground. Suspects kicked and punched the victim demanding his money. One suspect removed his property from his pockets. Suspects are described as two males and one female, unknown race, unknown age.

• Call 911 if you see anything suspicious.

• Talk to your neighbors about these events and ask them to be alert to suspicious activity. We need everyone’s help.

• If you are a victim of robbery, report it immediately by calling 911. Try to remember as much suspect information as you can when you are talking to 911.

Camera catches MPD officers in a lie

A North Minneapolis traffic stop on a Minneapolis couple didn't go quite as officers said according to Safe Zone camera footage. Yes, there is some basis for the man's resisting arrest charge but no, the woman did not "jump on an officer's back." In fact, she retreated back to the car when told to do so by the officers. Their original charges have been have been dismissed and they are now getting a settlement of $100,000. Story here at the Star Tribune.

Both victims ran off/no injuries. The vehicle belongs to S1’s friend who is known as “E.”

V2/BM-43 yrs., V3/WF-30 yrs., V4/BM-27 yrs. and V5/BF-25 yrs. were all inside V2’s tan Chevy when they heard a shot breaking the back window. They saw 3 unk BMs w/a shotgun running through the yards. Van was hit with BB shotgun shell. There are no better suspect descriptions available.

V1/WF-25 yrs. was at the One Stop Gas Station filling her tank when S1/BF, unk, Kyree 24-26 yrs. and S2/BF-unk 45-50 yrs. approached her. V1 recognized S1 because she had dated the same male approx. 10 yrs. ago that had broke up with S1. S1 started yelling and threatening her. S1 punched/threw V1 to the ground and wouldn’t stop hitting w/fists and stole her cell. Suspects drove off in red Chevy Impala/MN BNV151; but, the plate came back as a black Chevy S10.

One suspect was bald/stocky and the other had a short Afro/thin. No weapon was involved. Suspects took off w/cell, $40, clothes, ID and SS card.

09-330311 PC AGRobbery of Person Ap-1 was ID’d by V1 of a robbery at gun point. Ap-1 assaulted officer while attempting to escape/fled on foot. Ap-1 was taken into custody and booked HCJ. AP is also suspect in an Aslt 2 which occurred in the same area a short time earlier.

09-331932 PC DWI Refusal Officer observed MN MDP025 parked at listed intersection. Driver’s door was opened and AP1 was standing in between open door and vehicle, urinating into the vehicle and on the street. A TLE was conducted and AP1 was found to be under the influence of alcohol. AP1 booked into HCJ for PC DWI Refusal 2nd Degree.

09-330982 PC Narc Officer observed MN XTW507 fail to make a complete stop at 26th Ave N and Washington Ave N. Officer observed that the windshield was cracked. After a traffic stop was conducted, officer observed suspected ecstasy inside the vehicle. AP1-AP3 were transported/booked into HCJ for PC Narc. AP4 was transported to JDC and released to the staff for PC Narc.

09-329111 PC Narc OFFICERS RECEIVED INFORMATION THAT NARCOTICS WERE BEING SOLD FROM THE EAST DOOR OF THE ABOVE LOCATION. OFFICERS OBSERVED MALE, LATER IDENTIFIED AS AP1, MAKE A HAND-TO-HAND TRANSACTION WITH ANOTHER PARTY. OFFICERS KNOW THAT THIS BEHAVIOR IS CONSISTENT WITH STREET SALES OF NARCOTICS. MARKED SQUADS MOVED IN AND ARRESTED AP1 AND RECOVERED A QUANTITY OF CRACK COCAINE.

09-330187 Narcotics Search WT DP Officers executed a search warrant at the listed residence and recovered suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia along with an exotic animal (4ft Alligator) inside the home.

THURSDAY (10-22-09):

25th Morgan 09-330311

Officers were flagged down on a Robbery of person and while taking S1 into custody S1 fought with officers and fled on foot. S1 was captured and taken into custody. S1 roughly matched the description of the shooting suspect at 27th and Morgan a short time before this capper. Victim had been transported to Hsp.

FRIDAY (10-23-09):

27th/Morgan Ave N 09-330306

An adult male was in area of 27th/Morgan when another masked male asked him for money. S1 then shot victim once with a thru and thru gunshot wound to abdomen. V1 was transported to Hsp. and in stable condition but taken to surgery to determine the extent of injuries.

SATURDAY (10-24-09):

17XX Russell Ave N 10:36 hrs 09-331506

Officers responded to the report of a baby not breathing. Officers arrived and began CPR on the 23 day old infant. The infant was transported to NMMC where it was pronounced dead at 1100 hours. This death is being investigated by the Homicide Unit.

FLEE

27TH & Girard Av N 18:32 hrs. 09-331823

Officers observed MN RRM226 driving erratically near 27th and Girard Av N. Suspect vehicle was found to be a Mpls. “stolen,” CCN 09-33139. Officers activated emergency equipment/attempt to make a TLE. Suspect vehicle stopped momentarily, and fled eastbound on 27th. It turned south on Fremont until it turned east on 21st Av, and then south in the alley. Here, the driver and passenger jumped from the moving vehicle letting it crash into a light pole in alley. Driver was arrested but the passenger was not. FLEE covered approximately 7 blocks. Top-speed attained was approximately 35mph. Moderate vehicle traffic during chase, road condition dry, and weather clear with no precipitation. Squad and other squads arrived afterwards. Driver/AP was injured as he ran on foot from officers. He ran down a dark stairwell in the rear of 20XX Emerson Av N. Not realizing there was a locked, steel door at the end of the dark stairwell, he continued to run full speed into the door. He had some face and head injuries/Hsp/JDC.

Officers called to recover gun. Info received was that MPD/K9 was chasing one (09-302157) Sept 22, 09.

Officers dispatched to a person with a gun. Info stated that male had showed a gun. Officers arrive and locate male matching the description with a sawed off .22 caliber rifle in his waistband. Male was booked at HCJ.

MONDAY (10-26-09):

CHILD ABUSE

33XX Aldrich Av N 09-333588

Officers called to 33XX Aldrich Av. N., on an Assist Medical call. Remarks were that caller/father of the child was calling for an ambulance for his 2 month old daughter who he thought had a possible dislocated shoulder. Sgt. also responded to the call due to the age of the child and unusual nature of injury. Upon arrival, officer could see that there was something obviously wrong with child’s upper left arm and there was some redness to the child left eye. Father gave various information as to how injury may have happened including the child being at his sister’s home during the day. Child went via ambulance to NMMC. Child found to have complete fracture of humerus bone in left arm, injury to left eye and CAT scan revealed bleeding to the brain. Child placed on hold and admitted into NMMC NICU.

Adult female victim was walking in area of 39th/Fremont when she was approached by 3 suspects inside a grey vehicle. Suspects offered her a ride. V1 recognized one of the suspects so she got into vehicle. They drove around for a couple of hours. Two of the males exited and V1 continued riding with driver. Driver drove victim to vacant parking lot (Unknown Location?) where he pulled a gun, robbed her and raped her. V1 was dropped off in the area of Dowling and Emerson. Suspect was GOA. V1 went to Hsp.

Homicide #17?

Man found dead in a parked car on Nicollet and Groveland Ave. in the 5th Precinct. Not much else known. I am labeling this possible homicide #17 since last week's citywide highlights (available by email but not yet posted) indicates that we're already gotten to 16.

Early morning shooting leaves one dead

October 26, 2009 (MINNEAPOLIS) Shortly after 1 a.m. patrol officers in the Fifth Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the area of Groveland Avenue and Nicollet Avenue in the Fifth Precinct. When officers arrived on the scene they found a male who had been shot while inside of a vehicle in a parking lot. The adult male victim was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The Minneapolis Police Department Homicide Unit has investigators working on this case. There are no suspects in custody at this time. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the TIPS Line at 612-692-TIPS (8477).

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim and determine the cause of death.
